Hidden Items
On this page
Hide groups and items in QFloat behind a PIN (Premium): the eye button, re-locking, where hidden things stay out of sight, lockouts, purging and Settings › Privacy.
Hide and unhide #
Hidden items are a Premium feature, unlocked during the trial. Right-click a group or an item (select several to do them at once) and choose Hide or Unhide. The first time, a setup sheet asks for a 4–6 digit PIN and an answer to a security question you pick from a list.
The eye button #
The eye button sits to the left of Search, and only appears when the page has hidden things. It shows a crossed-out eye when locked, an open eye when revealed, and a warning badge during a lockout. Click it and enter your PIN: hidden rows show dimmed with an eye icon, with an Unhide button on hover.
Locking again #
Hidden things lock again when you press ⌘L, when the panel closes (the Re-lock when panel closes setting, on by default) and when you quit.
Where hidden things don’t show #
While locked, hidden groups and items are left out of the panel, search, filters, hotkey lists, and the MCP tools AI apps use.
Wrong PIN and lockout #
After 3 wrong PINs, QFloat asks your security question instead. After 3 wrong answers, it locks for 15 minutes and shows a countdown. The counters survive quitting and clock changes.
Purge Hidden Items is always available, even if you’ve forgotten both. It removes the hidden entries from QFloat (never your files) and resets the PIN. It can’t be undone.
Settings › Privacy #
- PIN: Set Up or Change.
- Change security question (needs the PIN).
- Re-lock when panel closes, on by default.
- How many things are hidden.
- Turn Off Hiding… (needs the PIN) unhides everything.
- Purge Hidden Items…
What hiding is, and isn’t #
Hiding keeps items out of sight in QFloat. It doesn’t encrypt files on your Mac. Your PIN and answer are stored only as salted hashes in your Mac’s Keychain. Restoring a backup restores the hidden state it was saved with.
