Widgets, share sheet, Siri and Shortcuts
On this page
You don’t always need to open the app. Check things off from a widget, add from the share sheet, or ask Siri.
Widgets #
SwiftList widget #
“Today or a list of your choice. Tap the circle to check an item off.” It comes in small, medium and large for the Home Screen, and the check circles work right in the widget.
- Touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget, then Choose List: Today, or any list.
- Free gets the Today widget. A widget for any other list is Premium.
Lock Screen widgets (Premium) #
Circular (open count), rectangular (next items) and inline.
Quick Add widget #
“Add an item to SwiftList in one tap.”
Control Center and the Action button #
On iOS 18 and later, add the SwiftList Quick Add control: “Opens SwiftList’s quick add sheet. Also works from the Action button.”
Mac widgets #
The Mac app includes the SwiftList widget for the desktop and Notification Center, in the Home Screen sizes.
When widget changes show up #
Things you check off or add from a widget are queued and applied the next time SwiftList opens. You’ll see “Added N changes from the widget or share sheet”. They sync after that.
Add to SwiftList from other apps #
In any app’s share sheet, choose Add to SwiftList. It takes text and a web link.
- Add each line as an item: splits pasted text into separate items.
- Save link in notes.
- List: Top level or a list. It remembers your last choice.
Tap Add. “It appears in SwiftList the next time you open the app.” If you’ve never opened SwiftList on that device, it asks you to open it once first.
Siri and Shortcuts #
Siri phrases must include “SwiftList”. A bare “add item” won’t reach the app.
| Action | Say |
|---|---|
| Add Item (title, list, due) | “Add an item to SwiftList”, “Add to SwiftList”, “New item in SwiftList”, “Add to Groceries in SwiftList” |
| Quick Add | “Quick add in SwiftList”, “Open quick add in SwiftList” |
| New List from Template | “Start Grocery Run in SwiftList”, “New SwiftList list from a template” |
| Show Today | “Show today in SwiftList”, “What’s on my SwiftList today” |
All of these are also actions in the Shortcuts app, so you can build them into your own shortcuts. Free limits still apply.
Links into the app #
For Shortcuts and automations: swiftlist://add opens Quick Add and swiftlist://today opens Today.
